SUMMARY:Atheist Day 2026: Not just a celebration. A demand for freedom.
DESCRIPTION:Atheist Day on March 23 is not just an annual celebration. It’s a demand for freedom. \nCelebrate openly. Stand in solidarity. Join us this March 23 for Atheist Day\, a global moment to defend the right to disbelieve in god(s). \nAtheist Day\, created by an international coalition of Ex-Muslims and atheist allies\, is more than a celebration. It’s an act of resistance. Across the world\, atheists and ex-Muslims continue to face persecution\, imprisonment\, and violence simply for questioning religion. From anti-apostasy laws to enforced silence\, disbelief is still treated as a threat rather than a human right. \nThis event brings together a global community to: \n\nAffirm the freedom of belief and non-belief\n\nRaise awareness of ongoing persecution\n\nStand in solidarity with those who cannot speak freely\n\nCall for the release of imprisoned atheists and activists\, including Sherif Gaber (#FreeSherif)\n\n\nWhether you’re openly atheist\, questioning\, or an ally—this day is for you! \nRead why Atheist Day matters now more than ever.

SUMMARY:No Hijab Day 2026: Burn Your Hijab. Light Up With the Women of Iran!
DESCRIPTION:On 1st February\, 2026\, Ex-Muslims International (EXMI) calls on people everywhere to: \nBurn your hijab. Light up in solidarity with the women of Iran on No Hijab Day! \nAs Iranians once again risk their lives in mass protests against an Islamic regime that enforces control through women’s bodies\, we stand with those demanding an end to theocracy and the continuation of the Women\, Life\, Freedom movement ignited by the killing of Mahsa Jina Amini for defying compulsory hijab laws. \nFor hundreds of millions of women worldwide\, the hijab is not a choice. It is enforced by religion\, law\, family\, and state power. It cannot be empowering while women and girls are jailed\, beaten\, and killed for refusing submission. \nOn No Hijab Day\, burn your hijab (safely and legally) and light up with the women of Iran who know the hijab not as a cloth\, but as a symbol of control. Read more about No Hijab Day by Ex-Muslims International. \n#NoHijabDay #BurnYourHijab #WorldHijabDay

SUMMARY:2025 Ex-Muslim Awareness Month: Why NOT Islam
DESCRIPTION:Our doubt\, voices and existence as Ex-Muslims is why we’re not asking\, we’re saying: why NOT Islam!\n \nJoin Ex-Muslims International in collaboration with Haram Doodles and Ex-Muslims of North America for the fourth annual Ex-Muslim Month this December in loudly\, proudly and unapologetically saying: “why NOT Islam!” \nEx-Muslim Month 2025 expands the U.S. success of the epic #whyNOTislam campaign earlier this year by Ex-Muslims of North America. \nTheir message is simple: Losing faith in Islam? You’re not alone! \nWe Ex-Muslims are a global community of people who\, somewhere along the way\, lost our faith in Islam too. And\, we’re done being treated as a threat and excusing a religious system that continues to harm. \nIslam\, and the Islamist Muslims who have the power to enforce it\, use Islam to turn inequality into law\, obedience into virtue\, and freedom into a crime. The result is an authoritative\, oppressive religious system that allows family\, community and government leaders to control\, silence and harm people by denying them their basic human rights like freedom of speech or freedom from religion. \nDire consequences are not theoretical for those of us who dare to free ourselves from Islam and advocate for secularism\, humanism\, free thought\, feminism and LGBTQ+ rights. They’re lived\, unjust and systemic. \nRampant apostophobia in Muslim communities. Women forced into veils and homes in Afghanistan. An Islamic regime that continues brutalizing dissent and persecuting protestors in Iran.  \nAnti-blasphemy laws imprisoning human rights activist Betty Lachgar in Morocco or people in Pakistan for speaking freely online. Disappearance of atheist activist Sherif Gaber amidst a war on atheism in Egypt. Human rights violations in Saudi Arabia.\n\nHarm done by Islamist family control in the U.S. or U.K. Half of the countries with anti-LGBTQ laws being Muslim-majority. And\, countless dissidents of Islam facing persecution — the harm is real\, global\, and ongoing. \nThat’s why ExMuslim Month was started in December 2022\, for ExMuslims\, Ex-Muslim organizations\, partners\, allies and friends to raise global awareness of Ex-Muslims and advocate for our rights to safely and freely question\, disbelieve and leave Islam. \nWe leave Islam because we can\, no matter what Islam or Islamists say. We speak quietly and loudly because too many of us cannot. Every Ex-Muslim who doubts\, deconstructs and leaves Islam is living\, breathing evidence of why NOT Islam! \nHere are 10 things can you do to celebrate and honor Ex-Muslim month in December 2025:\n\nUse hashtag #ExMuslimMonth and #whyNOTislam\nUrge politicians\, influencers\, organizations and public officials to free Betty in Morocco\, free Sherif Gaber in Egypt\, and to use their privilege\, power and connections to support secularism or keeping religion out of governments.\nVisit and share whyNOTislam.net\, created by Ex-Muslims of North America. It provides Ex-Muslims and people who are questioning Islam with the most-discussed topics\, frequently and secretly-asked questions\, and evidence-based information from the Quran.\nShare your story anonymously on exmuslim.me. Make a historical contribution with fellow Ex-Muslims and let the world know we exist!\nWatch this livestream with members of Ex-Muslims International Secular Spirit\, Uniting the Cults\, Haram Doodles\, Apostate Aladdin\, Maryam Namazie from the Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain\, Egyptian musician Yasmine Elbaramawy\, artist Raghed Rustom\, and physics professor Usama al-Binni.\n \n\n\nShare content about Ex-Muslims from Ex-Muslims to increase belonging.\nTalk about Ex-Muslims on social media or with people you feel safe with.\nSupport fellow Ex-Muslims in your life and in online communities like Reddit or Discord\nDonate to Ex-Muslim organizations.\nVolunteer your time and talent with Ex-Muslim\, atheist\, secular and humanist organizations.\n\nHistory of Ex-Muslim Month: Did you know? ExMuslim Month was born from the Ex-Muslim Subreddit in December 2022\, and the Ex-Muslim Subreddit was started on December 1\, 2010! \nDownload and share 2025 Ex-Muslim Month #whyNOTislam graphics\n \n

SUMMARY:Blasphemy Day 2025: Decriminalise Blasphemy! Free Betty!
DESCRIPTION:Join EXMI’s #FreeBetty Campaign for Blasphemy Day on Sept. 30!\nOn Blasphemy Day\, Betty will have endured 51 days behind bars in Morocco – simply for wearing a T-shirt deemed “blasphemous.”  \nWe need you and your voice more than ever! \nJoin Ex-Muslims International for a public action on 30 September in support of renowned activist Ibtissame Betty Lachgar. Betty has been imprisoned in Morocco for two and a half years for wearing a t-shirt with the slogan a ‘Allah is Lesbian.’ Call for the decriminalisation of blasphemy and for Betty’s immediate release.  \nGet in on the “Prison Mugshots” campaign for Blasphemy Day:\nTake mugshot photos holding a placard:\nUse these templates. Use black background for realism\, white background for printer-friendly or make your own. \nUse a short caption for social media: \n\nBlasphemy is not a crime and no one should be jailed for a t-shirt! #FreeBetty #BlasphemyDay2025\nIf Betty can be imprisoned for a t-shirt\, any of us could. #FreeBetty #BlasphemyDay2025\nBetty is a cancer survivor. She urgently needs medical care. #FreeBetty #BlasphemyDay2025\n\nFind and tag Moroccan authorities on social media:  \n\n@ChefGov_ma\n@Diplomatie_ma\n@Justice_Gov_ma\n\nPost it on your socials with two hashtags: #FreeBetty #BlasphemyDay2025 \nWhy Mugshots\, Not Selfies? \nWe’re not asking for just another solidarity selfie. Mugshots symbolise imprisonment — they show the reality that Betty is behind bars for a T-shirt. By taking a mugshot\, you place yourself symbolically in her position\, stripped of freedom and dignity for “blasphemy.” \n📸 How to Take Your Mugshot Photos (see examples below from Veiled Rose) \n\nStand against a plain wall or background\nHold the placard chest-high\nKeep a straight\, serious look (no smiles)\nWear plain/baggy clothes\, minimal makeup\nTake 3 shots: front\, left profile\, right profile\n\nThis helps people imagine what Betty is enduring — and makes the injustice impossible to ignore. \n \nJoin the International Blasphemy Day YouTube livestream on Sept. 30: \nUniting the Cults will be hosting a special livestream for Blasphemy Day featuring members from Ex-Muslims International.  \nSign Betty’s petition\, get a t-shirt\, and visit Ex-MI’s #FreeBetty page to find out more ways to learn about and support Betty.  \nLet’s show the world that blasphemy is not a crime! #FreeBetty

SUMMARY:No Hijab Day
DESCRIPTION:Hijab Silences\nTake off your Hijab and Put it on a Man\nEx-Muslims International No Hijab Day Statement | February 1\, 2025\n \nNo Hijab Day was created on 1 February as a direct response to World Hijab Day\, which promotes the hijab as a symbol of women’s choice and empowerment. Rather\, No Hijab Day seeks to illuminate the coercive and oppressive realities of the hijab as a pillar of sex apartheid and a war on women. \nFor many\, the hijab is not a choice but a religious requirement imposed by honour culture\, toxic modesty norms\, and legal or familial pressures. It is a visible marker of a broader Islamic system that restricts women’s rights and autonomy. \nThe religious origins of the hijab underscores its role in control rather than empowerment. Historically\, the hijab was used to differentiate amongst believing\, free and enslaved women. The idea behind the hijab is that uncovered women and girls will cause fitnah or chaos in society by tempting men. Therefore\, Islamic teachings have instilled a culture of shame and submission\, warning of women being the majority in hell or facing divine punishment for showing their body or hair. \nAcross the globe\, women face both legal mandates and societal pressures to wear the hijab and cover from head to toe. In countries like Iran and Afghanistan\, the hijab is a legal requirement as part of a system of sex apartheid that is imposed by violence and terror. In Iran\, mandatory hijab laws have been in place since 1979\, sparking decades of protests\, including the recent Woman\, Life\, Freedom movement ignited by the murder of Jina Mahsa Amini in September 2022. In Afghanistan\, women and girls are denied access to education\, work and freedom of movement by the Taliban. In Saudi Arabia\, where so-called reforms have ostensibly loosened hijab restrictions\, women continue to be imprisoned for defying dress codes\, as exemplified by the case of Manal al-Otaibi. \nIn Western countries\, too\, women from Muslim families often face intense social and familial pressures. Tragic cases such as Aqsa Parvez in Canada and Shafilea Ahmed in the UK—both murdered by their families for defying modesty norms—illustrate the grave consequences of these religious pressures. \nA symbol that has been used to shame\, control\, and suppress women cannot be used to combat intolerance and racism. A sexist tool to control and erase women is antithetical to women’s empowerment and visibility. Whilst anti-Muslim bigotry and xenophobia are undeniable\, racism cannot be combatted with sexism and the hijab\, rooted in modesty culture and oppression. \nNo Hijab Day stands in solidarity with women who resist mandatory religious dress codes\, societal pressures\, and institutionalised sex apartheid\, which like racial apartheid must be considered a crime against humanity. \nNo Hijab Day calls for global recognition of the struggle against sex apartheid and the hijab and a commitment to supporting the fight for women’s freedom\, equality\, and rights. \nThis year’s theme for No Hijab Day is #HijabSilences to shine a light on the women who remove and refuse to wear hijab and who resist sex apartheid. \nHow to take part in No Hijab Day: \n\nWe are calling on women of all beliefs and backgrounds to take off their hijab\, and put it on a man on February 1.\nUse this opportunity to spark meaningful conversations about purity culture in Islam\, challenge sex-apartheid\, and show your solidarity with ex-Muslim\, Iranian\, Afghan\, and other women around the world who refuse to wear the hijab.\nShare your thoughts\, experiences\, and support using #NoHijabDay and #HijabSilences\nLet your voice inspire real change for women’s rights.

SUMMARY:Ex-Muslim Awareness Month: End Apostophobia!
DESCRIPTION:Join Ex-Muslims International for the third Ex-Muslim Awareness Month in December 2024.\nThis year\, we demand an end to apostophobia\, because leaving Islam is a human right!\nApostophobia\, or the fear\, hatred\, discomfort with\, hostility towards\, or discrimination against apostates\, is rampant in Muslim families and Islamic states because apostasy is a forbidden and punishable sin in Islam\, by death according to Shariah. \nWith no or restricted access to support\, safety and freedom\, Ex-Muslims are continuing to suffer hateful\, violent and fatal consequences like being disowned\, abused\, imprisoned or even killed\, just for leaving Islam. \nThis Ex-Muslim Awareness Month in December 2024\, we invite you to share your stories of apostophobia\, amplify Ex-Muslim voices\, and join in calling an end to the hate and harm people experience for leaving Islam! \n2024 Ex-Muslim Awareness Month Hashtags\n#EndApostophobia #ExMuslimAwarenessMonth \nDefinition of Apostophobia:\nApostophobia is the fear\, hatred\, discomfort with\, hostility to\, or discrimination against Apostates. This sentiment is a form or racism and a person who harbours it is called an Apostophobic. Apostates are described as people who have left a religious in-group to join an out-group\, left their religious in-group and became non-religious\, or left a religious out-group to join another out-group. \nAbout Ex-Muslim Awareness Month\nEx-Muslim Awareness Month was born out of the Ex-Muslim Subreddit and organized for the first time in 2022 by Haram Doodles! Together with a coalition of Ex-Muslims\, including content creators\, organisations\, and communities of apostates worldwide\, this month is dedicated to raising awareness of Ex-Muslims\, celebrating the right to apostasy\, and advocating for our freedom to leave Islam. \nHeld immediately after “Islamophobia Awareness Month” in November\, Ex-Muslim Awareness Month shines a light on the unique challenges faced by those who have left Islam. For many\, this decision comes with life-altering consequences — from community rejection and isolation to threats of violence\, persecution\, and even death. \nWhy Ex-Muslim Awareness Month?\nFor Ex-Muslims\, leaving Islam is often a journey fraught with danger\, trauma\, and loss of community. Apostasy is forbidden in Islam\, and leaving the faith can lead to ostracisation\, harm\, or even state-sanctioned punishment. Most Ex-Muslims are forced to remain hidden to protect themselves from serious risks. This month provides a crucial space for raising awareness\, offering support\, and promoting the right to freedom of belief. \nGet Involved and Support Ex-Muslim Awareness Month by:\n\nFollowing and amplifying Ex-Muslim voices on social media using hashtags #ExMuslimMonth\, #ExMuslimAwarenessMonth\, and #ExMuslimAwarenessMonth2024 #EndApostophobia.\nLearning about Ex-Muslims and the challenges they face. If you’re unfamiliar\, start with googling “apostasy in Islam” or explore Ex-Muslim communities on Reddit\, Discord\, and Telegram.\nJoining a local or online Ex-Muslim organisation\, volunteering\, or donating to Ex-Muslim causes.\nAdvocating safely for Ex-Muslim rights within your own communities\, among friends\, or even on a policy level.\n\nLet’s work together to make sure that no one has to live in fear for questioning or leaving their faith. This month and beyond\, get to know Ex-Muslims\, learn about our stories\, and support our journey toward freedom and acceptance. \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n End Apostophobia: Leaving Islam is a human right!\n \n \n \n \n \n End Apostophobia: Freedom from religion is a human right!\n \n \n \n \n \n End Apostophobia: Apostasy is a human right!\n \n \n \n \n \n End Apostophobia: Arabic\n \n \n \n \n \n End Apostophobia: Farsi
